Richard J. Landrigan, 72 of Berkley Township Toms River, NJ passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, July 20, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Richie was born on October 12, 1947 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Robert and Elsie (Drewes) Landrigan.
He attended Dickinson High School where he met his high school sweetheart Lynn M. Reed. He graduated in 1965, then later married Lynn on September 28, 1968 at Saint John the Baptist Church of Jersey City, a few blocks from where they both grew up. He then enlisted in the United States Navy on July 16, 1969, working on the USS Saratoga until his honorable discharge in January 1973. He earned the National Defense Service Medal.
After discharge from the Navy, they settled in their home in Nutley, NJ on Mountainview Ave. for 43 years. He attended Montclair University at night. His first career was as a Pipeline Welder working for the Union for 30 years, specializing in X-Ray Pipe Welding. While there, he also worked for the town of Nutley as their animal control officer. His passion had always been computers and security protection. At the age of 50, he ventured on a new career as a computer security consultant teaching “ethical hacking” until retiring at 67 to take care of his wife. His wife also attended Montclair University, then worked as a Vascular technician retiring as Director of the Vascular lab in Columbus Hospital in Newark, NJ in 2008.
Rich and Lynn moved to Toms River, NJ in 2008 to be close to their beloved daughter Erin, son-in-law Tom, grandchildren Thomas and Robert and father Robert Landrigan. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage of 47 years until she predeceased him in 2015. He was a loving and devoted husband taking care of his wife’s every need until her last days.
He was an amazing grandparent having been part of every single school function, party, celebration for his beloved grandchildren, Thomas and Robert. He was an avid reader, very social, loved people and was always the first to offer a helping hand.
He is predeseased by his parents, wife, and sister Annie Landrigan Cuozzo.
He is survived by his daughter Erin Landrigan-Zawisza and her husband Tom of Wall, NJ; his sister Kathryn and long time friend George Denehy of Bayonne, NJ and his grandsons Thomas Zawisza and Robert Zawisza.
The family will be receiving friends and relatives on Sunday July 26, 2020 from 2-6pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 145 Catherine Blvd. Toms River, NJ. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 10:30am, on Monday July 27, 2020 at St. Joseph Church 685 Hooper Ave. Toms River, NJ with burial to follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery Wrightstown, NJ.
