Rita (Ackerman) Policastro

Rita (Ackerman) Policastro, 98, of the Holiday City section of Berkeley Township, previously from Iselin, NJ, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Complete Care of Arbors, Manchester, NJ. Rita was born in Newark, NJ, on February 1, 1925, to her late father, William, and late mother, Lucy Ackerman. She was married to her husband, Pat, for 68 years. Rita worked and retired from the Revlon company in Edison, NJ. Rita was a member of St. Cecilia Church, Iselin, NJ. She was also a member at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Toms River.

Rita is survived by her son, Gregory, and joins in heaven his late wife and her beloved daughter-in-law, Arlene, of Iselin, NJ. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and John, of Maryland. She will be missed by her adoring granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jessica and Brian, of Maryland, and her loving great-grandchildren, Conor and Lauren. She will also be missed by her sisters Patricia Uhrig of Newark, NJ, and Johanna Mele of Tuckerton, NJ, her many nieces and nephews, and many wonderful neighbors. She was predeceased by 5 brothers and sisters.

Rita was full of love and laughter. She loved animals, cooking, crocheting, doing word searches, talking on the phone, going to AC, and “gallivanting.” A person could eat off of her floors, they were so clean. She loved to feed the ducks at Island Heights. To know Rita was to love her. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, October 25th from 9:00 am to 10:00 am for a viewing service, at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd, Toms River, NJ, 08755. A burial will follow shortly after at the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.
