Robert Bassinder Obituary

Robert Preston Bassinder, of Seaside Park NJ, known to many as Capt. Rob, was a devoted outdoorsman and famous for his deer hunting prowess with a Bow, who had a heart as vast as the wilderness he loved, passed away peacefully early on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born in Philadelphia, Bob spent his early years in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, before moving to Seaside Heights in 1956.  He attended Central Regional High School, where he excelled as an athlete, running track and playing varsity football all four years.  In 1960, he earned a spot on the All-County Football Team as an End.  During the summers, Bob worked as a lifeguard for the  highly regarded Borough of Seaside Heights, where he developed a deep love for the ocean.
Bob served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, a duty he carried out with quiet pride.  After his military service he continued to be a Highway Investigator as an Inspector for Highway Patrol, which was later absorbed by the New Jersey State Police, dedicating 25 years protecting and serving his community.
Known for his deep passion for nature, Bob found joy in the stillness of the forest.  An avid deer hunter, he cherished every season spent beneath the changing leaves and starry skies.  Equally at home on water as land, Bob also had a life long love for sailing, often navigating open waters with the wind at his back and a smile on his face.
Bob’s respect for nature was matched only by his love for family and friends.  He was a steadfast companion, always ready with a story, a famous dry sense of humor and deep satisfaction of always helping those in need.
He is survived by those who loved him deeply, who will forever carry the memories of sitting on the beach, watching the waves crash on the shore, casting out a fishing line at sunrise, sharing long talks, enjoying a quiet rounds of golf, and feeling his presence in all the simple, peaceful moments he cherished most.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Rubina Bassinder, and his two brothers Richard and Harry Bassinder.
Robert is survived by his wife of 51 loving years Elfrieda, his three children Dean Bassinder and his wife Jennifer of Hamilton, NJ, Robert P.BassinderII of Seaside Park, NJ, Christal Bassinder-Huchko and her husband Stephen of Pine Beach, NJ, his brother David Bassinder of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, and his grandchildren Ruby, Olivia and four other beloved grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 3:00pm – 7:00pm and Thursday, June 5, 2025 10:00am until the funeral service at 11:00am at the Timothy E.
