Robert L. Sauer, 74, passed away from complications due to metastatic advanced melanoma on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ.
Bob was born in Bronx, NY and moved with his parents to Parsippany, New Jersey where he met his high school sweetheart, Kathy Newman. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University, he went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Montclair State University. Bob and Kathy married and raised their family in Manalapan, NJ.
With nearly two decades at AT&T, his career led the family to relocate to Waterford, VA. After giving early retirement a shot, Bob continued his career at Computer Sciences Corporation and then Accenture. Following his second and final retirement, Kathy and Bob moved to the River Pointe community in Manchester, NJ.
Bob was a second-degree black belt in Karate. Through the AARP Foundation, he volunteered to provide free tax assistance for low-income seniors for over 10 years. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed being Mr. Fix It for his girls, reading historical novels, traveling, biking on the beaches of Hilton Head Island, and entertaining his family and friends (especially after a few beers) with his one-line zingers and his vast knowledge on a variety of topics.
Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy; two daughters Cindy Linsen (David) of Westfield, NJ and Tracy Ferguson (Ben) of Hilton Head Island, SC; three grandchildren Jack, Alex and Hannah; and granddog Romeo.
