Robert “Bob” Popovics, 75, of Seaside Park, NJ died on November 1, 2024.
Born in Trenton, NJ, he has been a longtime resident of Seaside Park.
Bob proudly served his country with the US Marine Corps during Vietnam.
Bob and his wife Alexis owned and operated the Shady Rest in Bayville NJ, a restaurant founded by Bob’s parents. Bob was a man of many talents, known for his roses and more importantly for his impact on the Fly Fishing community. Known as an innovator in the Fly Fishing industry, he was the Founder and CEO of Pop Fleyes, a custom fly tying and educational company. He has been featured in many publications including Outdoor Life, Fly Fisherman, Salt Water Fly Fisherman, The Asbury Park Press and many other outlets. Bob authored two books, Pop Fleyes and Fleye Design and was always available for fly tying and fishing advice.
He was a parishioner of St Catharine RC Church in Seaside Park.
Surviving is his loving wife Alexis, his daughter Alexis and her husband Jeremy.
Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing for Bob on Monday, November 11, 2024 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St Catherine Blvd., Toms River, NJ. We will be meeting Tuesday, November 12, 2024 10:00am at St Catharine RC Church in Seaside Park where the Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will follow at The Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
