Ronald P. Skopak Obituary

Ronald P. Skopak, 76, of Toms River, passed peacefully at home on Monday, March 2, 2026, surrounded by the love that he so generously gave throughout his life. Born in Newark, New Jersey, on January 16, 1950, Ronald lived a life defined by devotion to his family, his profession, his community, and his faith.

At the center of Ron’s life was his beloved wife, Margaret “Peggy” (Lilley) Skopak. He loved her unconditionally and wholeheartedly. Their marriage was the foundation of his world, built on loyalty, partnership, and deep, abiding love. Everything Ron did, he did for his wife, his daughters, and later his four grandchildren. His life was not about himself; it was about providing, protecting, supporting, and loving his family with quiet strength and unwavering commitment.

He was a proud and devoted father who led by example. Ron believed that hard work was a reflection of character. Through his steady guidance, he instilled in his daughters a powerful work ethic, teaching them that perseverance, integrity, and dedication mattered. Those lessons became part of who they are and stand as one of his greatest legacies.

Being “Papa” was one of his greatest joys. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and nothing meant more to him than time spent with them. He celebrated their accomplishments, encouraged their dreams, and loved them with a steady and reassuring presence that made them feel safe and proud. The title of Papa was one he carried with immense pride.

Ron was one of three boys and shared a lifelong, unbreakable bond with his brothers. Their relationship was rooted in loyalty, shared memories, and deep respect for one another. In recent years, having homes at the shore together became a special chapter in their lives, a place where they gathered, laughed, supported one another, and continued the closeness that began in childhood. That brotherhood remained one of the steady pillars of Ron’s life.

A graduate of Essex Catholic High School in Newark, New Jersey, Ron went on to earn his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Advanced Education Specialist degree (Ed.S.) from Seton Hall University. He dedicated 45 years to the field of education, first as a 6th grade teacher at Caldwell’s Jefferson School, later as Assistant Business Administrator, and ultimately serving as a respected School Business Administrator/Board Secretary for the Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education. He worked diligently behind the scenes to ensure that schools operated with responsibility and care, approaching his career with the same integrity and commitment he brought to his family life.

In retirement, Ron embraced the simple joys that meant the most: time with Peggy, family gatherings, afternoons at the Toms River Yacht Club, caring for his cars with pride, and cheering on the New York Giants with unwavering loyalty. He also found special happiness in his beloved dog, Summer. He delighted in teaching her tricks and taking her for walks along the beach and boardwalk, enjoying the peaceful rhythm of those moments. Summer was his loyal companion during a chapter of life he treasured deeply.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, Theodore Skopak and Mary (Cioci) Skopak.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Peggy, the love of his life; his daughters, Shannon Skopak of Toms River, and Heather Skopak of Maryland with her spouse, Trisha Whiting, who carry forward his strength and values; his brothers, Robert Skopak and Carolann of Manasquan, and Theodore Skopak and Vicky of Lavallette, with whom he shared a lifelong brotherhood; his cherished grandchildren, Logan, Lilley, Vera, and Kinsley, who will forever be proud to call him Papa; and many beloved nieces and nephews, who were like an extension of his own children. He nurtured special relationships with each of them and their spouses and was always there for them, no matter what, offering love, guidance, and support throughout their lives.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2026, at St. Justin the Martyr RC Church, with entombment to follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River. No flowers will be accepted at the church due to the Lenten season.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ronald’s honor to a charity that supports children, animals, or veterans, causes that reflect his caring and generous spirit.

Ron’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, faith, and tireless devotion to family. His steady presence, unconditional love, and lasting example will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Heaven is blessed to have gained another angel.
