Thomas R. Herr, 82 of Holiday City West section of Berkeley Township passed away on Tuesday June 17, 2025, at home surrounded by his family..
He was born in Jersey City, NJ and relocated to Toms River, NJ in 1972 where he enjoyed fishing, boating and playing golf.
Thomas retired as a Sergeant after 25 years of service with the New Jersey State Police. He had a distinguished career including a Certificate of Merit awarded for Life Saving First Aid at a serious motor vehicle accident.
He was an active member and usher of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
After retirement, he worked as a starter and Ranger for Bey Lea Golf Course where he was beloved by all who played there. He was a member of the Gilford Park Yacht Club and served as Vice Commodore and was a member of the Former Troopers Association and the National Troopers Coalition.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife Marjorie (McAllister), three sons; Brian and his wife Colleen, Shawn, Richard and his wife Melissa, his daughter, Andrea von Harten and her husband Erich, his brother; Richard and his wife Patty, his sister; Mary Schepis and eight adored grandchildren Alyssa, Alexis, Meghan, Molly, Gavin, Abigail, Dieter and Riley.
Family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday June 19, 2025, from 4pm to 7pm at The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 145 St. Catherine Blvd. Toms River, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday 11am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to Tunnels to Towers.
