Thomas Krone, 82 of Toms River, passed from this life peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024. Thomas was born July 19, 1942 in Hoboken, N.J. to the late Andrew and Dorothy Krone. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. Known as Pepa to his grandchildren, Tom loved to travel having visited 45 states and he especially loved to vacation with his family and grandchildren. He often had his camera with him and this love of photography led him to become the official photographer for the North Jersey section of the American Chemical Society. In 2019 he was recognized with the NJACS Pro-Bono Award for his service to the section. Tom’s calling was education. He taught history for 48 years and in 2004 was awarded a Certificate of Recognition as a public school teacher for having exceptional contributions in the use of effective instructional techniques and methods, and for establishing a productive classroom climate where students developed a love of learning and feelings of self-worth. Tom was also an avid runner, completing many marathons including the Walt Disney World Marathon in 2009 and the Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge in 2012, both with his daughter, Anne. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Tom is predeceased by his parents, Andrew Joseph Krone and Dorothy Kelly Krone, and brothers Andrew, George, Robert, Hugh, and James Krone.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane Abramowski Krone, daughter Anne Zapata and her husband Thomas, brothers Joseph and Albert Krone, sisters Dorothy Fitzsimmons and her husband Thomas and Kathleen Burns and her husband William, sisters-in-law Ellen Krone and Linda Nicholas, and grandchildren Tommy, Liam, and Ryan Zapata.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am, Saturday, December 28. 2024 at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church with Entombment to follow at Christ the King Mausoleum.
