Thomas McLaughlin, 83, of Toms River, NJ, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in New York City, NY, he lived in Bergenfield, NJ, and Nanuet, NY, before relocating to Toms River in 2021.
Tom was a proud Navy veteran having served on the USS Brattleboro EPCE(R)-852. He had a distinguished career in Telecommunication, working with Continental Grain for 30 years and later at McGraw Hill / S&P Global in New York City for over 25 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Constantine and Mary (Murphy) McLaughlin; his brother Hugh and wife Eileen; and godson Brian.
Tom is survived by the love of his life of 57 years, Nancy (Calves) McLaughlin; his son, Tommy McLaughlin; his two daughters, Mary Sigler and husband John, and Kelly Leuck and husband Rob; his two brothers, Connie and wife Chris, and Joseph; his niece Kerry; as well as four grandchildren, Amanda and husband Ryan, Robbie, Tommy, and Tiffany, and two great-grandchildren, Henry and George.
Tom was deeply adored by all who crossed his path. His zest for life was infectious, and his smile was ever-present. A humble, kind, and humorous man with a generous heart, he cherished moments spent with his family and embraced life’s simple joys. He was especially proud of completing four NYC Marathons and one Montreal Marathon.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River, NJ 08755. On Friday, March 7, 2025, a Memorial Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s RC Church in Lakehurst, NJ, with inurnment following at BG William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ, at 12:30 p.m.
