William M. Carroll, 93, of Toms River passed from this life peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 11th 2024, surrounded by his family. William, known as Bill by his loved ones, was born on July 23rd 1930 in Elizabeth, NJ to William and Anna Carroll. William is predeceased by his parents William Carroll and Anna Metzler and his wife, Margaret I. Carroll.
Bill grew up in Elizabeth, NJ and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1948. Soon thereafter, he married Margaret (Peggy) Scheuer. Peggy and Bill lived in Rahway, NJ in the early days of their marriage and eventually settled in Iselin, NJ with their four children, Linda, Jeffrey, Nancy and Judith. Bill worked as plant manager at NJ Tool & Die for 38 years and retired from that position in 1992. For many years, Bill and Peggy also owned a summer home in Ortley Beach where many fond memories were made with their children and grandchildren. In their later years, Peggy and Bill moved to Holiday City, a retirement community in Toms River, NJ where they lived happily until Peggy passed away in 2015.
Bill was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. At the age of 93, beyond his 4 children, Bill was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was a life-long fan of the NY Giants and he enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing. Bill spent many years volunteering his time with the Knights of Columbus as well as the Holiday City Berkeley Township First Aid Squad. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bill is survived by his children, son, Jeffrey Carroll and his wife Jeanne Cassano; and daughters Linda Maffiore and her husband, Thomas; Nancy Steingart and Judith Beaton and her husband, Thomas; his 12 grandchildren: Sandra, Jaclyn, Thomas, Adam, Jason, Lauren, Scott, Timothy, Jennifer, Meghan, Bryan and Michael; and his 21 great-grandchildren: Eva, Leif, Finn, Grey, Owen, Isla, Jonah, Gjelina, Rooney, Elissa, Cassidy, Aubrey, Madeline, Zachary, Cecelia, Jase, Jameson, Myles, Lincoln, Nathan and Valentina.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, July 16th 2024 from 10 am to 12 pm at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd. Toms River.
Private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Serenity Hospice of Bordentown, NJ.
