William J. McNichols, 81, of Toms River, NJ, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024. Born and raised in Bronx, NY, before he moved to NJ, where he made his permanent residence in Toms River for the last 47 years. William worked for Pitney Bowes in Bronx, NY, where he met his wife, Dorren. When he moved to NJ, he transferred to the Trenton office and retired after many years of service.
William was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to bring light to any situation. In addition to his family, William loved his Friday nights in the screen house, cooking home fries and blasting Meatloaf on Saturday mornings, collecting clocks, cruising with his wife, Dorren, stargazing, drinking a perfectly poured pint of Guinness and of course, dogs! Although William was not much of a sports fan, he loved watching boxing, which is fitting, because he was a fighter until the very end. He always made those around him smile and laugh. His kindness, warmth, and love will be remembered by all who knew him. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Toms River. William was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Adele McNichols and his sister, Josephine Castronuovo (nee McNichols). He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorren (nee Meagher), his seven children: William (Robin) McNichols of Fries, VA, Corine McNichols of Brick, NJ, Cristina (Craig) Schoefer of Brick, NJ, Timothy (Alison) McNichols of Toms River, NJ, Kelli (Jeff) Marchitello of Wall, NJ, Kevin McNichols of Brick, NJ and Meghan McNichols of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, eleven grandchildren: Deserie (Josh), Tyler (Camila), Alyssa, Cali, Emaleigh, Echo, Makayla, Connor, Colin, Jeffrey, Cameron and two great grandchildren: Nolan and Jack.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 4:00pm – 8:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday, October 22, 2024 10:00am at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Toms River. Entombment to follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
