William F. Meehan, 89 years of age, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 25, 2022.
William was born on July 11, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Anna and William Meehan. He was the youngest of three children, two preceded him in death. William was educated at LaSalle Academy in New York, and Saint Bonaventure University in Olean, New York with a Bachelor’s in Business.
William enlisted in the Marines after graduating from college. He was an auxiliary officer over 234 men and was further promoted to Lieutenant. He spoke about the marines often, and would reminisce that his main concern was always to get everyone out of Lebanon and Syria safely.
After putting in four years as a Marine, he began looking for a job and became interested in the textile field. He was fascinated about how and where clothes were made. He searched for a job that had a great training program and that led him to Milliken, where he would say “he received a PHD in Textiles”. This job set him on a course of buying & selling fabric until the day he retired.
William married the late Anne McCartin in 1965. They lived in Wayne, NJ while he and his wife had four children, and later retired to Toms River, NJ to be close to the beach. William professed his life to the Catholic Church and served his community for as long as he could till his health prevented him from doing so. He was a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus and organized numerous church functions.
William loved to cook, read, watch sports, and spend time with his family. He would pray the Devine Mercy and the rosary daily. We would often hear him saying “a family that prays together stays together.” He was a loving and caring person, devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend.
William leaves his loving memory to his four children, Mary Anne Regan, Kathleen Meehan, William F. Meehan III and Eileen Csipak, along with a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
One of his favorite sayings was, “God is love and all who live in love live in God and God lives in them.”
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday September 29, 2022 4:00pm – 8:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, September 30, 2022 10:00am at St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
